Triumphal Arch Skowhegan
Triumphal Arch 2007 is a project I began during a
residency at Skowhegan. The departure point for Triumphal Arch is a large 16th
century (1505) multi-woodblock print by Albrecht Durer. The original print featured
interchangeable woodblock panels slotted into an architectural scaffold. The panels functioned as propaganda,
and could be removed, replaced, or relocated depending upon political necessity
or imperial whim. I have redrawn,
reconfigured, and updated Triumphal Arch as a contemporary installation with
the narrative panels replaced by blue screen.
